Brushstrokes
DESCRIPTION
Felt paintings of 成语 (cheng yu), or Chinese idioms, in which the traditional brushstrokes of Chinese calligraphy are strictly followed. The Brushstrokes collection is also a Chinese word game with ancient and scholarly roots called 接龙 (jie long), where each 成语 must start with the last word of the 成语 preceding it. The paintings are circular in nature, with the last 成语 ending with the first word of the first painting. This represents the cyclical nature of life and the Buddhist concept of reincarnation, highlighted by the first word on the first painting: 生 (sheng) or birth.
